Phoebus Apollo Aviation

BE IT KNOWN TO ALL MEN

THAT I PHOEBUS APOLLO BEING MONARCH OF THE SKY, EVEN AS MY UNCLE NEPTUNE IS MONARCH OF THE SEA I AM LORD OF ALL THINGS THAT FLY....

Be they insect, bird or man himself - from the smallest solo gnat to the largest Transcontinental Air Liner, from the pre-historic pterodactyl to the post-atomic rocket, from the first swallow stooging round for a companion to make up a summer to the maximum efforts of the largest swarm of bees formatting on the Queen; from the rarely grounded swift to the temporarily airborne hen; from Flying Officers to Red Admirals; from box-kites to balloons; from night-fighter bats to dive-bombing seagulls; from flying-fish to flying buttresses.

Be it further known that I, PHOEBUS APOLLO, being the Sun God, am master also of the poles on which the Sun never sets, therefore am I also Protector of all those individuals that fly alone in the sky.

Be it further known that those that fly solo should henceforth be set apart from those who have not.

Overview and History

Starting with humble beginnings, Phoebus Apollo Aviation has grown into a fast moving, forward thinking company, offering unparalleled standards in all areas of aviation. Being based in Johannesburg, South Africa, Phoebus Apollo Aviation is ideally situated in the heart and business centre of Southern Africa.

The company was conceived in 1979, founded the Flight School in 1996 and in 1998 expanded into scheduled cargo, passenger and charter flights into Southern Africa. Operating up to three Douglas DC4s and a Douglas DC3 at the time, Phoebus Apollo Aviation became the designated cargo carrier to many countries in Southern Africa, those including Angola, Congo, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe to name but a few. As the company expands and moves into the jet age with a Douglas DC9, the future looks bright for Phoebus Apollo Aviation.

A major part of Phoebus Apollo Aviation is the well known Flight School, based at Rand Airport, Germiston. Founded in 1996 with a single Cessna C152, a leased Piper Arrow and a single Flight Instructor, the Flight School has grown considerably with a fleet now consisting of a Cessna C152, three Cessna C172s, a Cessna C172RG, used for advanced training and Piper Seneca, Piper Aztec used for Multi-engine training.

At present the company employs five Instructors. Many of our passed students have moved onto greener pastures, flying for many of the major Airlines around the world, including South African Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Spicejet, Jet Airways to name but a few.

All aircraft are owned and operated by Phoebus Apollo Aviation and all maintenance is carried out by our own maintenance division, also based at Rand Airport. We consider this to be one of our strongest attributes as when aircraft are unserviceable it is only a matter of hours until the aircraft are back in the air again.

The Engine division has received Worldwide recognition for the impeccable standards set over the years. Highly trained and licenced technicians are available for all maintenance, repair of light & medium category aircraft, as well as engine overhaul & engine testing. Phoebus Apollo Aviation is one of the biggest piston engine rebuilders in the world today.

With a company like Phoebus Apollo Aviation on the move, well make your experience in aviation just that little more special!
